A Selection of Doggie Daycares in Ireland

Updated On: March 20, 2023 | Published On: March 18, 2021

Wish you could continue to stay home and play with your pup all day? After almost a year of various restrictions, we know that our best friends have enjoyed having unlimited play, cuddle, and wrestling time, but now, with so many companies on the path to reopening again, it might be time to think about doggie daycare for your pup. Dog daycare is a daytime care option for dogs of all ages, especially suitable for those with separation anxiety, or with a high energy level. With record numbers of dog adoptions and new puppies to save us from loneliness during the lockdown, now that we are going back to work, it's worth remembering that dogs don't have Instagram and Netflix..

A lot like traditional daycare facilities, except for canines, doggy daycares offer a safe environment for our furry family member to run around in a cage-free environment, have group play with their favorite toys, and make new furry friends all while being supervised by a trained staff member for a great experience and the highest level of care. Bringing your pup to a daycare facility is a great option for both small and large dogs as it allows them to get plenty of exercise, positive reinforcement, and have an overall great time. Many facilities have outdoor play areas, some select locations create the experience of your dog’s home away from home, a safe place where your pup will receive loving care, dogs play with new friends, take turns for snuggles and naps, all from the comfort of happy homes.

Another really important reason why we should be considering bringing our furry family members to a dog care facility rather than leaving them at home alone is that it helps reduce separation anxiety and increase tail wags! Let's face it, the anxiety goes both ways, we consider ourselves pet parents (pawrents if you will) more than pet owners, being at work and worrying about your pup back at home isn't healthy for either of you. Doggie Daycare will give you peace of mind and means that you can both have a great day and will have something to talk about over dinner 😉 .

We have been in touch with 7 doggie daycare facilities around Ireland to find out what a typical day with them looks like.

Happy Tails Daycare in Ballinacurra, Co. Cork

We spoke with Aisling to find out the scoop on Happy Tails Daycare.

  • What are your rates? - Our daycare daily rate is €24 per day. We also offer packages for customers who are attending regularly at discounted rates.

  • What are your opening hours? - We are open Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 6 pm.

  • Do you offer any additional services? - We provide dog training classes and have a small shop on site.

  • Can you describe your location? - We are an all indoor daycare spread over two floors. We have different areas for different groups. Our dogs are grouped together based on size, age, and play style.

  • What does a day in the life of a dog look like at your doggie daycare? - We are a cage-free, open-plan daycare. This means that we don't kennel or crate the dogs while in our care (other than for lunches). The dogs are usually very busy in the morning with lots of hours of playing and chasing. We do nap time between 12 pm and 2 pm, which is a really important part of the day as overtired and overstimulated dogs are not what you want in a daycare environment. We turn down the lights, put on the heater, take out the blankets and cushions, and put on a relaxing playlist. The dogs all go find their comfy spot and settle down for a snooze. We often share videos of this on social media as our customers find group nap time so cute. The dogs usually spend the rest of the afternoon pottering about and playing until it's time to go home.

  • Have your regular customers been in touch with you, and have you had an increase of new dog owners reaching out to you? - Yes, the majority of our customers have been in touch and are planning to be back once things start reopening. We have also seen an increase in numbers for new applications, particularly puppies in comparison to other years.

  • Will you be looking for new clients or are you already full? - We are still taking new clients for our small to medium groups, however, our medium to large group is currently full with a waiting list.
